about

I was five years old in 1965 when John Lewis and others were beaten by State Troopers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma Alabama. Sitting on our front porch in Denver, my mother showed me photos in the newspaper and told me about the struggle. I told her, "we can never go there because they would hurt us." John Lewis absorbed a lot of pain in his life, on behalf of us all. I don't know if I believe in Heaven but I believe John Lewis is in Heaven.
